Betty Peacock

Writing for Fun.........

"Through humor you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it." - Bill Cosby

Betty Peacock discovered at an early age the power of the written word. As a teenager, she would sit for hours at a time, writing letters to her grandmother. It wasn't until 2005 that Betty decided to try her hand at writing professionally.

Books and a genuine love of learning are an integral part of Betty Peacock's life. "I learned at a very early age that I could lose myself in a book. Books allowed me to have adventures and to dream dreams. I could go to faraway places and see things that I had never seen. I could be whomever I wanted to be and could achieve whatever I wanted to achieve. Books didn't limit me or my imagination. They allowed me to go beyond what was real."

Betty's first children's picture book, Can I have a Monkey?, was published in June of 2009. What child hasn't stood in front of the monkey cage at the zoo and secretly contemplated the idea of taking the monkey home with them?

Can I have a Monkey? will take your child on an adventure that will long be remembered after the story is read, the day is done and the book is put away on the shelf.

"What a fun book! Our kids enjoy this one and they can read it themselves. They always play a game as they turn each page- where is that monkey and what is he doing? All kids can relate to wanting a pet and all parents can relate to hoping they will be content with the "squeezable alternative"! Cute story and cute pics. And our kids
ALWAYS read the name "BETTY PEACOCK" out loud! They love that name! :)"
- Lisa Lanier Allen and Steve Klitgaard

"The book was unique. I would say that using the monkey as a nontraditional animal/pet provides a special approach for children.  We know that children love animals so the traditional use of dog/cat in such books has been advanced with this book.  That is real important and a superb idea for children to develop a greater respect for the entire animal world.
The subtle message I gained from this book is a message of diversity, in that monkeys are different but not different.  Children learn to love/respect all animals (all individuals). " - Bill Adler, Ph D, Collin College
